Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit (CBU) is the unit of Medical Research Council (MRC). CBU conducts research programs investigating fundamental human mental processes like attention, memory, communication and emotions and their working. This is done by building computer models of the operation under consideration and studying their arousal and manifestation from the neural mechanisms of the brain. Through these behavioural studies clinical implications of the disorders and their therapeutic and rehabilitative aspects are attempted to be understood.

The staff and projects are organized into five internal research groups in the areas of attention, emotion, speech and language, memory and knowledge, methods research and infrastructure.

CBU started MRI facility in December 2005, which provides high-field (3T) parallel imaging facilities and support to the cognitive neuroscience community. The high speed equipment is one of the most technologically advanced systems for acquisition and analysis of functional Neuro imaging data sets in the world.
